Someday and Shine is the solo project of Galih Kharisma Putra from Indonesia. "Random," recorded in 2010, encompasses themes of loss, separation, and loneliness. Galih writes lyrics around acoustic guitar and lo-fi minimalism. The first track, Hilang, starts off the album with field recordings, effects-laden guitar lines, and lo-fi vocal crackle. Sendiri Padam is mournful, effect-drenched vocals paired with simple low-frequency guitar lines and midrange plucking. The third track, Tanpa Sinaran Tanpa Kiasan, finds the calm eye of the storm with soft acoustic strumming and distant, introspective lyrics. Tertulis is spoken word with minimal plucking, while The Light closes the album with the same feeling and sense of mystery conveyed by the first track. Random is a short, excellent, fulfilling release. Galih Kharisma Putra doesn't try to be anything he's not; he excels at creating a mood piece, a blanket of fog, hushed thoughts swirling within your head.
